Dr Lorella Tapia-Reyes
Thanks to a struggle with allergies, I found my calling. My mother has always been into alternative medicine for herself. I learned about it and tried a treatment for allergies and it worked really well. The next thing I knew, I was becoming a physician in the field myself. Western medicine is completely different. I'm not anti-western medicine. I like to integrate the two.
But thanks to a general disappointment with western medicine, and lots of word-of-mouth advertising from celebrities, my field is becoming increasingly sought after - and more accepted by traditional doctors. The people are loving it. They've been very curious and pleasantly surprised. People are getting frustrated with some aspects of western medicine because of the side effects of the medications and the surgeries. They want to try something else. I was trained in herbal medicine, nutritional counseling, and Tui Na, which is oriental massage. But my forte is acupuncture.
I've had a lot of support from the medical community. We have many doctors who refer to us regularly. My office in particular accepts most insurance. We are in network providers which is one advantage compared to others in our field. Most people don't need a referral, they can just try it on their own. I opened a second office in Los Lunas, NM in October 2005.
Dr Robert Nuttall
I enjoy treating a wide variety of patients in the clinic and working with such talented and experienced staff and doctors. Very often we are called upon to solve chronic problems with patients who were unable to get relief with other therapies. My regular grand rounds with Dr. Tapia-Reyes are an excellent opportunity to keep expanding our knowledge and efficacy as health providers.
Albuquerque is a wonderful place to practice. It has the great nearby outdoor opportunities that I enjoy so much when I have the time. When I left college I performed with several professional symphony orchestras including a couple of performances with the New Mexico Symphony. Later, under the inspiration of family members who are in medicine, I later became a Doctor of Oriental Medicine here in New Mexico.
